30! (and a winner & some favorites!)

So today's the big day....my 30th birthday! I thought I'd share with you guys one of the rooms that inspired me to start this blog three years ago. I had seen this home while stalking Apartment Therapy's Fall Colors contest, and back then I'd never seen anything like it! One day when I wanted to go look at it again, it took me forever to find it. That's when I realized maybe I should start a blog to collect fabulous rooms, make them easier to find, and seriously, imagine the thrill of seeing turquoise room after turquoise room! Never in a million years did I think I'd have so many readers, meet so many people who love turquoise as much as I do. Thank you all so much for your comments every day, for inspiring me with your rooms and projects, and for sharing all of your amazing blogs with me. 30 is going to be the best year yet, and so much of that is because of you!

And with that, time to announce the winner of my giveaway! *Drumroll please!*

Lucky girl! So now I'm turning off the computer and going to celebrate the rest of the day. In fact, I think I'll take tomorrow off too. (It's actually C's and my anniversary!!) So I'll see guys back here on Monday! I'll leave you with some more all-time favorite photos from Carla Ten Eyck Photography that I discovered on mimi and meg a year ago. I love them as much now as I did then! Ooh la la!

Jessica Thomas

I was delighted to discover the colorful world of stylist Jessica Thomas through The Newlywed Diaries. I guess it's not much of a discovery, since I've already seen and loved so much of her work in a ton of magazines. I love knowing who the talent behind all the beauty is! Check out her portfolio and I know you'll recognize a bunch more photographs!

Have a great weekend everyone! There's still time to be entered in my giveaway!

Ikat Love

I loooove the mix of fabrics and colors in this living room from Homes & Gardens. The vibrant ikat patterns are so striking. I don't know which one I like better, the fabric on the sofa or the addition of the sweet, sweet yellow on those very comfy-looking ottomans. And the pillows? I won't even go there! The archway isn't exactly my style, but I love how the shape is mirrored in the tables. The fabric...and the colors...it just doesn't get much captivating than this!!

(Don't forget to enter my birthday giveaway!)

Wythe Blue

So many things to love about this fantastic home designed by lakbdesign! Not surprisingly it's all the walls painted Benjamin Moore's "Wythe Blue" that initially won me over. I knew this color must be special when long ago Seleta mentioned it on her blog: "I worked our whole house around my favorite blue which I had painted on the walls of the master bedroom. Benjamin Moore: Wythe Blue HC 143". Recently I noticed the folks over at GardenWeb had a lot to say about the pretty color too:
"It's a perfect blue/green IMO and the swatch doesn't do it justice. Especially next to the other colors -- it looks green but on the wall it's anything but."

"I swear it's like walking into a spa every time I go in the room. I love it."

"I also love Wythe Blue by BM. It is very similar to Quietude, but more saturated. Looks more like a true aqua, but still never baby-ish."

"We used BM Wythe Blue in our nursery (for a girl) and I absolutely love it. I can't say enough about how amazing that color is and it's a good blue -- works for a boy or a girl."
Get this though...what sealed the deal on my love was a comment I received last week from an in-the-know reader who revealed to me that Wythe Blue is actually the color of the Draper foyer/staircase on Mad Men!! *squeal*

Timothy Mather

I know you've seen (and loved) this incredible kitchen with the painted ceiling, but I wanted to make sure you see more work from the mind behind it! Timothy Mather of TM Design Ltd was born in England, and educated in Zimbabwe and Canada. He spent 10 years in a successful fashion career before he continued his education in interior design. I can't get enough of the punchy green and turquoise going on in the first room, those drapes are my favorite! But that kitchen...I could look at it all day long! See more of his work here (make sure to check out the new stuff!)

My Dream Cottage

I've posted part of this home a long time ago, but it's one of my most favorite homes of all time. I love that the tiny 969 sq ft carriage house is in Des Moines (I hail from Iowa!), and that the Country Home team transformed it using renewable and recycled products. The upstairs space is incredible...the stenciled walls are just so beautiful. And I could just stare at the bed all day. I love that they used vintage feed sacks and embroidered tea towels to make the throw pillows. How perfect do they look with the lovely Plover Organic bedding! And that bird print is so cute (I saw the same one on canvas at Target a couple weeks ago!) Head here to see more images and read all about this adorable home! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Retro Lake Cottage in Maine

Sweet Stephanie of the blog Royal T Designs (and Dockside Dogs, the cutest little dog boutique ever) was just up in Maine visiting the most adorable cottage I've ever laid eyes on. The little lake home belongs to her aunt and uncle who completely renovated the space themselves. She said before they got their hands on it it was a total mess of a shack. They tore it down to just the beams, then collected all the awesome original 50's appliances, dishes, flooring, countertops, cabinets, etc. They also kept all of the original furniture and reupholstered it...turquoise! A huge thank you to Stephanie for taking all these fab photos and sharing them with us!
